IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL APPLICANTS: This Registration is for Written Exams OR Performance Exams that are RE-TESTS ONLY - Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1 (CFTTG1) and Review Study Session. If you are Re-certifying (5 year expiration), please Register for a FULL EXAM under the other Registration option.

TIME: 7:15 am - Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your start time. (Start time is subject to change – you will be notified in advance of any changes.)

2024 ACI MARYLAND CHAPTER PROGRAM POLICY: 
  • NO REFUNDS or CREDITS will be given within 14 days of the Study Session.
  • All Refunds and Credits will be subject to processing fees and study materials deductions.
  • There are no returns on Textbooks.
  • NO REFUNDS or CREDITS will be given for Exam Day no-shows.
  • Changes in company personnel are allowed up to 14 days prior to the exam (Company will be responsible for transferring Textbook to new employee).
  • ACI Maryland Chapter reserves the right to change, cancel, or reschedule Study Sessions, Training, Exams, Performance Evaluations, and Exam Sites at any time. ACI Maryland Chapter will contact you if any changes occur.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION WHAT TO BRING: Legal photo ID is required for all Exams. Applicants must bring a calculator and #2 pencil (no mobile phones will be allowed during the exams). 
PERFORMANCE EXAMINATION WHAT TO BRING: Applicants must have proper PPE including a hard hat, safety glasses, vest, protective gloves (you will be handling concrete), and work boots. There could be down time while waiting for your Performance Exam. If you need to bring water or a snack, please feel free to do so. 
Always practice social distancing. You are required to follow any masking guidelines put forth by your Examiner, Proctors, venue management, and the local government of your testing location. 
 
A Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform and record the results of seven basic field tests on freshly mixed concrete.
Scope and Knowledge: This program requires demonstration of the knowledge and hands-on skills covered on the Job Task Analysis (JTA):

The JTA is a detailed list of specific points of knowledge and skills that may be included in the examinations for this ACI Certification program. ACI urges candidates to use the JTA to prepare for the certification exams.
The program also requires a working knowledge of the following ASTM test methods and practices:
  • C1064/C1064M – 17: Temperature of Freshly Mixed Hydraulic-Cement Concrete
  • C172/C172M – 17: Sampling Freshly Mixed Concrete
  • C143/C143M – 15a: Slump of Hydraulic-Cement Concrete
  • C138/C138M – 17a: Density (Unit Weight), Yield, and Air Content (Gravimetric) of Concrete
  • C231/C231M – 17a: Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Pressure Method
  • C173/C173M – 16: Air Content of Freshly Mixed Concrete by the Volumetric Method
  • C31/C31M – 19: Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field
 CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both of the following requirements:
-A passing grade on the ACI written examination; AND
-Successful completion of the ACI performance examination.
 
The one-hour WRITTEN EXAMINATION is closed-book and consists of 55 multiple-choice questions. There are between five and ten questions on each of the ASTM test methods and practices. To pass the written examination, BOTH of the following conditions must be met:
-At least 60% correct for each of the required test methods and practices; AND
-A minimum score of 70% overall.
 
The PERFORMANCE EXAMINATION is also "closed book" and requires actual demonstration of six of the required test methods and practices plus a verbal description of Practice C172/C172M (sampling). The examinee is judged on his/her ability to correctly perform (or describe, where allowed) all the required steps for each procedure.
Certification is valid for a period of five years from the date of successfully completing all requirements.
Recertification requires successful completion of both the written and performance examinations.
